April 24th2010, in celebration of Arts &Culture Week
(April 18 to 24) and Earth Day (April 22) the North
Vancouver Community Arts Council is offering a free
guided tour through the wetlands of the Conservation
Area at Maplewood Flats. Led by a wild life
conservationist from the Wild Life Bird Trust,
participants will learn about the importance of
preserving wetlands and other areas like Maplewood Flats
that are still in their natural state. During the tour
artists Alexis Cawood and Sharon Christian will share
with the group their artistic perspectives on capturing
the beauty of the Maplewood Flats and its residents.
Participants please bring your camera and/or sketch pads
to capture images for an exhibition, and if you're a
writer, bring your journal to describe your experience.
The objective of the exhibition is to educate the public
about the importance of preserving what's left of our
natural waterfront and wetlands in this rapidly changing
city through the images and written words of the
participants, and will also give worth to getting out
and enjoying the natural state of the waterfront that is
abundant in birds, seals, deer and many other creatures
that are being encroached upon and forgotten in the

| This survey
of the graphic work of one of the most critical figures
in First Nations printmaking reveals an artist of
exceptional imagination, compositional skill and visual
power. Perhaps more than any other artist, Davidson has
championed graphic means of expression and has
substantially expanded the vocabulary of forms and
colours available through traditional First Nations
iconography. The result is an art practice that is
deeply imbedded in Haida culture, yet speaks to
present-day personal, social and political realities.
