This five-member dance group puts on a high-energy performance that involves various street-styles, including locking, popping, breaking and hip hop. For elementary school students, the dance group focuses on the issues of bullying and strengthening one's identity. For middle/junior to secondary school students, the dancers address their struggles with their craft and discuss how to stay positive. Students in Kaslo, Canal Flats, Kimberley, Invermere and Golden will experience this engaging show.

What: Art Riding the Rails When: Apr. 18-24 Where: Main Street Gallery
A series of events celebrating the resiliency of spirit and creativity that results from people being down together in hard times. Includes a showcase for local artists, workshops by local writers, visual and performing artists. A partnership with a local thrift store will show recycled clothing for theatre and children's workshops using recycled materials. What: The Empty Bowl Project When: April 19-28, 2010 Where: Fernie Secondary
Students in Planning 10 have been studying and addressing social issues by becoming involved in a Social Responsibility project: the Empty Bowl Project. It has taken place nationally and internationally for a period of more than ten years. 50 bowls (and other foodware) will be available for sale during the event. With the sale of each bowl a coupon for a free soup (from the school cafeteria) will be provided. The profit from the sale of the bowls will go to a local non-profit agency.

Golden

What: Mural Painting When: April 18-24, 2010 Where: Alexander Park Elementary
Students are partnering with a local artist to create and paint a mural reflecting the culture and community of their school.

Grand Forks

What: Green Forks When: Apr. 18-24 Where: Grand Forks Gallery, G.F. Strong Secondary School
A community event involving 17 arts groups and the schools, and includes visual arts in the gallery, performing arts at the school and a reception at the gallery on Apr, 24, 1-3 pm. Earth Day celebrations will be included. Boundary District Arts Council 250-442-8569

What: 45 Books in 45 Minutes When: Apr. 21 Where: Kaslo Library
A celebration of literary arts in which 9 volunteer book-reviewers have one minute per book to tell the audience about 5 of their favourite books. A popular community event, filling the library to capacity from a population of 1500. North Kootenay Lake Arts and Heritage Council 250-353-7624

A day of art activities with an earth-friendly theme. Demonstrations and hands-on activities will include a weavers workshop, a book reading, painting demonstrations, musical interludes and dance demos. Kimberley Arts Council 250-427-4919

Nelson

What: Our Environment Mural When: April 19-20 Where: St. Joseph School
Students at St Joseph School will be celebrating Arts and Culture Week by painting their own individual plywood panels that represent "Our Environment." They will be painting with acrylics, and together their designs will form a Mosaic Mural. Students will be guided by Jackie Tahara, a local artist who is also inspired by nature. Jackie has recently participated in the Kunamokst Mural Mosaic, a similiar collaborative project which was unveiled February 13, 2010 at West Vancouver Spirit Square, an official 2010 Winter Olympic Games Celebration Site. St Joseph School loves the opportunity to celebrate our passions of art and nature. We look forward to installing our mosaic mural on our chain link fence on the bottom playground sometime in May. What: Documentary Filmmaking Residency with Mo Simpson When: April 19-23, 2010 Where: Lucerne Elem-Secondary
Mo Simpson, award-winning cinematographer and filmmaker, will spend two weeks working with Lucerne High School Students. "The Story of the Nikkei" is the title of their documentary film project. With Mo's guidance and support, students will film interviews with the remaining Japanese Canadian Internment survivors in their community, and will also speak with their adult children and grandchildren. The students will edit the film with Mo's help, with a final screening scheduled for June.

Rossland

Glenmerry student artists and citizen scientists will be displaying their visual art projects which include pastel, charcoal, 2D and 3D models of boreal forest animals; birds of the South Columbia and student initiated pastel compositions.
